Spinlock's SLK-100 Series TD-NMR Analytical Equipment for the
Food Industry.
Spinlock’s SLK-100 Series Equipment are capable of performing analysis of:
- Oil, Moisture and Fatty Acid in oily seeds. Sunflower, Soybean, Canola, Peanut, Corn and
Cotton, among others.
- Olive oil and olives, paste and pomace (both dry and humid sample).
- Oils analysis in other foods.
- Fat, including Solid Fat Content (SFC) and Moisture in other food products (Chocolate,
Cheese, Olives, etc).
- Expellers, pellets, flours and other elements resulting from process of vegetable oil production.
Overview of Spinlock’s SLK-100 Series equipment.
High Precision:
± 0,15% for oil and liquid or solid fat content.
± 0,3% for moisture content.
± 2% for fatty acid content.
Fast Measurements:
4 Seconds for moisture and oil content.
24 Seconds for fatty acid content in oily seeds or in edible oils.
2 minutes for moisture and oil content in humid olive paste (no previous drying), olives or
pomace (simultaneously).
High repeatability of results:
0.09%(*) for oil, 0.18%(*) for moisture
Simple:
- User-friendly software. Screen directly shows analysis results in percentages.
No need for trained operator.
- Sample does not need any preparation (analyses grain as-is).
- The sample is not affected or destroyed during the analysis.
- No supplies needed to operate. Consumes same electricity as computer)
- Environment friendly: no chemical solvents or any hazardous materials.
- Uses a standard desktop computer.
- Equipment built entirely in modules – upon eventual failure, the damaged module
is changed in minutes, and the equipment can be put immediately back to operation.
Some theory behind Magnetic Resonance Analysis
Magnetic Resonance (NMR) is one of the most useful techniques for the study of molecular structures. By means of using a low-resolution time domain spectrometer it is possible to develop a fast, precise and non-destructive method to determine the hydrogen content of the solid and liquid phase of materials. This determination permits the quantitative analysis of moisture, solids, fats and oils in food products. With regards to the oily seeds, particularly, this is a method that is used in research laboratories in seeds to determine the amount of hybrids being developed.
Opposite from the traditional chemical analysis methods, the NMR method is characterized by its rapidness, precision, and for the fact that it does not destroy the analyzed sample. The chemical method, however, while of the maximum precision (used for the NMR calibration), requires a complete laboratory for purposes of the analysis, several hours to process and obtain the result, added to the fact that the sample is lost during the process. Finally, while the chemical analysis utilizes solvents and other potentially hazardous substances, the NMR is completely safe and ambient friendly, avoiding the use of any substance.
The sample is kept intact during the analytical process. Because of this, after being analyzed, the seed may be sowed. This characteristic of the NMR method is unique, as it allows the selection of seeds depending on their quality. This method is used particularly in research laboratories and hybrid-seed production companies to increase their product quality.
